Academics
The course of study at City Center Academy is designed with two ends in mind: to equip students with the academic skills needed to succeed in college and beyond and to build strong character that will serve as a guide for each student’s future. The purpose of education is not simply to accumulate skills and knowledge, but to develop minds and hearts that can use that knowledge to transform the world. CCA seeks to grow leaders whose use of their talents is characterized by service and love.
Within the curriculum there is a strong emphasis on each of the five major disciplines: English, History, Languages, Mathematics and Science. The freshman year course of study is prescribed. However, as the student progresses through the four years of the curriculum, he or she gains increasing opportunity to choose courses of special interest. Upperclassmen are able to choose advanced math and science courses, and those who qualify may earn college credit through courses at the Community College of Philadelphia.
Our curriculum is designed to present a unified body of knowledge by organizing English, history and Bible curriculum in chronological order from ancient times to the modern era. Language instruction complements this organization as ninth and tenth graders study Latin while eleventh and twelfth graders study Spanish. Students also have the opportunity to study the arts in a variety of visual and performing arts classes. Our goal is that students be able to think creatively, using appropriate skills and knowledge to engage and impact the world around them.
